We are pleased to announce that The Hotel Seiryu Kiyomizu has been awarded one Michelin Key by the prestigious Michelin Guide. The Michelin Guide, known for its restaurant ratings worldwide, has expanded to include hotels, and this year marked the first-ever Michelin Guide for Asia, with 108 hotels in Japan being recognized.
The Michelin Guide selects hotels that meet five evaluation criteria and provide exceptional experiences, similar to the star ratings for restaurants. In Japan, a total of 108 hotels were awarded Michelin key, including 6 hotels with three Michelin key, 17 hotels with two Michelin key, and 85 hotels with one Michelin key.
Takanori Muroi General Manager shares, “We are very honored to have received the Michelin one Key. We will continue to promote the charms of Kyoto and make the hotel a place where our guests can enjoy their stay. We hope you enjoy your stay at this unique hotel.”
MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View (The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu)
In a city as hallowed with history as Kyoto, refurbishing is an art unto itself. The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu wears its provenance proudly, retaining the 1930s brick-and-arch facade of its former life as an elementary school. Clean minimalism and rich tradition blend well in its public spaces, natural complements for contemplative tours of the shrines, pagodas, and temples within walking distance. Upstairs, guestrooms unleash a bit more luxury — spacious, gently curvilinear, in eggshell and cream tones, and of course fully equipped with knockout city vistas. Even farther up, the rooftop bar is an object lesson in decompression when the sun gets low and the lanterns start to glow.
